As part of FNB’s R100m Joburg City Centre head office revamp, the Life Indoors team met with the banking giant to discuss the facelift to the outdoor Urban Savannah area. At first, the brief was to remove the existing plants including hedges and Clivias from the built-in troughs in order to waterproof, paint and then replant them with indigenous plants.
A fresh new take from Life Indoors
One of our concerns was that once the plants were removed, the likely hood that they would survive without being replanted within a short time frame, was less than probable. So instead, indigenous plants were chosen to create an eye-catching potted garden. We filled the troughs with some fresh, good quality soil and added a variety of aloes, veld grass and succulents. We also created an 18m long industrial style steel pergola with Rhoicissus climbers. They will eventually climb over the structure to create a shaded green canopy. It’s the perfect spot for you to relax while sipping on a cup of one of the local coffee shops finest brew.

This project has completely revamped a chunk of Joburg’s city centre. The result is a chic city lunch spot that is sure to be the envy of neighbouring buildings. The Life Indoors team created a peaceful retreat by bringing in shade created by greenery and indigenous plants in an otherwise concrete jungle. The goal was to encourage people to take time out of their busy days to enjoy the outdoors. If you’re ever in the area, be sure to spend some time exploring the numerous local shops, eateries and of course, the newly refurbished indigenous Urban Savannah.
