From Civil Engineering Dreams to Landscape Technology
Youth in landscaping takes many forms — and for Tsholofelo Tiba, it started with a twist of fate. At 33 years old and now an Area Manager at Life Landscapes in Pretoria, her journey into the green industry wasn’t planned.
“I initially wanted to study civil engineering,” Tsholo explains. “But I didn’t apply in time and needed to find another option quickly because I had a scholarship. The only course available at TUT was Landscape Technology — and that’s how I ended up here.”
Though it began by chance, Tsholo made a decision early on to stay and embrace the opportunity. That decision has since shaped a career filled with purpose, people, and growth.
Leading by Example
After only two months with Life Green Group, Tsholo already feels at home — and driven. What she enjoys most is watching others grow.
“Seeing someone come in as a garden technician, knowing nothing about the industry, and growing into a team leader or manager — that’s powerful. It reminds me why we do this.”
She also finds joy in seeing projects take shape — from design to implementation — and watching people admire the results.
Strength in Growth and Discipline
Tsholo describes herself as a perfectionist who’s learning to give herself more grace.
“I can be very hard on myself,” she says. “But I’ve learned I can also be firm, fair, and capable. Speaking up and disciplining staff used to be difficult for me, but I’m learning to lead with confidence.”
What motivates her daily is walking sites with her teams, sharing laughs, and solving problems.
Why Youth Month Matters
For Tsholo, Youth Month is a tribute to the youth of 1976 — and a reminder of what’s possible today.
“Their fight wasn’t in vain. We have opportunities now because of them. That’s why it’s important to spotlight young people in the workplace — to remind them of their value, their potential, and the passion they must hold onto.”
From Admin to Area Manager
Tsholo is proud of many things — but her biggest achievement is her growth.
“Being promoted from admin clerk to site manager and now area manager — all because I took initiative — means a lot. It shows what’s possible with dedication.”
At Life Green Group, we are proud to celebrate the young leaders shaping the future of our industry. Tsholofelo’s journey is a powerful reminder of what’s possible when we invest in youth in landscaping—because passion, resilience, and opportunity can take you further than you ever imagined.
