A Practical Start to a Promising Journey
Youth in landscaping is more than just a theme—it’s the lived experience of Sydney Pfariso Mafanywa, a 25-year-old intern at Life Green Group. His career journey began in August 2024, when he joined the company through a work-integrated learning programme as part of his Landscape Technology studies.

Learning Through Hands-On Experience
Starting out at Waterfall Hills, Sydney worked as a garden technician and joined the mowing team. This gave him valuable experience in maintaining outdoor spaces.

“Being on-site gave me hands-on experience I couldn’t get in a classroom,” he says. “I learned a lot about discipline, consistency, and the importance of green spaces.”

Shifting Gears: From Field to Office
In March 2025, Sydney’s role evolved when he joined the area managers. He now supports them with administrative tasks. This transition gave him a deeper understanding of the planning and coordination behind landscape operations.

“It’s been exciting moving from the field into the office,” he explains. “I now understand how much planning happens behind the scenes.”

Lessons from the Team
One of the most rewarding parts of his role is learning from others.

“Every person I meet teaches me something new,” he shares. “Watching how experienced team members solve problems helps me grow and gain new perspectives.”

Personal Growth Through People and Nature
For Sydney, personal development in landscaping is about more than skills.

“I’ve learned that success comes from building good relationships—with the environment and the people around me,” he reflects.

He adds that teamwork and clear communication are essential for delivering great work and creating impact.

What Youth Month Means to Him
Youth Month is a chance to celebrate opportunity and equality in the workplace.

“Age should be just a number in the workplace,” he says. “Everyone—young and old—deserves the chance to contribute and grow.”

Milestones That Matter
Sydney is proud of earning his Diploma in Landscape Technology. But what makes him happiest is using it daily to learn and improve.

“Getting my qualification was a big step,” he says. “But applying it on the job is what really builds confidence.”
